Olympia’s Ethnic Celebration continues…
…with Community Talks at the Olympia Timberland Library
The Olympia Timberland Library and Olympia Parks, Arts & Recreation are hosting three evenings of talk, demonstrations and entertainment as extensions of the City's (February 6) Ethnic Celebration in order to further engage the community in cultures of our area and the world. The events take place at the library.
Monday, February 8, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
5:30: Olympia Peace Corps
Returned Peace Corps volunteers will lead a conversation on cultural immersion, developing language skills, and their personal response to experiencing another society.6:30: The African Affairs Council of Washington: presents "Africa: A Continent of Nations and Peoples - Challenges and Opportunities in Washington State"
A panel of Washington organizations will discuss working on the African continent and opportunities for community participation.
Tuesday, February 9, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
5:30: The German Language with Wilfried Lippmann
German is a weird, illogical, frustrating, and plainly crazy language, according to Lippmann. Find out how much in this exercise. 5:00: India South Sound Association presents Yoga & Meditation
This is an introduction to Pranayama (breathing exercise) yoga. Wear comfortable clothes and be prepared to breathe! Yoga releases the stress of mind and body, helps improve concentration and promotes a healthy body.6:00: Jay Sicilia of Planet Percussion presents Percussion Music from Around the World
Learn about world instruments and the sounds they make, and then play them in a closing drum circle.
