Kingdom Keepers

Author:

Ridley Pearson

Review:

Kingdom Keepers is a very suspenseful book by Ridley Pearson that takes place in Disney World at night. The main character is Finn. He is a DHI (Disney Host Interactive). The four other DHI's are Philby, Maybeck, Charlene, and Willa. While the DHI's are asleep, they cross over into Disney World--just like in a dream, only it is really happening. The reason they cross over into the park at night is that they are trying to solve a riddle that will stop some Disney villains called the Overlanders, from taking over Disney World. The first night the DHI's cross over, they go on the It's a Small World ride, looking for clues to solve the riddle. They listen to the dolls' lyrics and hear the line about smiles and think that if they smile at the dancing dolls, maybe they will stop attacking them. It works. The next night they cross over and get on It's a Small World again, and put on 3D glasses. They find letters, and figure out that they ned to go on other big attraction rides having to do with the sun, the wind, the rain, and rocks, to find the rest of the letters to solve the riddle. All the while, a friend of Finn's named Amanda, who knows the park top to bottom, has been advising him. Finn and Amanda meet a girl named Jez who seems mean, controlling, and like she is trying to pull Finn away from Amanda. But soon Finn realizes that Amanda and Jez are hiding something from him. This book was full of suspense, especially toward the end. I would definitely recommend this book to realistic fiction and fantasy lovers ages 9 - 15. I liked the author's writing style because the characters seemed real. You get to know the characters and to know what they are thinking. Each DHI comes from a different school so they each have a different perspective, personality, and background. They also have different friends. Overall the book was fantastic and entertaining!

The Lightning Theif

Author:

Rick Riordan

Review:

What I liked about the book the Lightning Thief is that it takes place during our time period but the Greek gods and goddesses are still alive. Mount Olympus is now the 600th floor of the Empire State Building, but there are only 102 floors in the building. So Mount Olympus is just floating above the Empire State Building. I also like how Percy Jackson, the main character and also the son of Poseidon, stays at this summer camp called Camp Half Blood. Half bloods are the sons or daughters of the Greek gods and a mortal mom or dad. At the camp Percy gets to learn how to sword fight. He also gets to learn how to shoot a bow and arrow but he is not so good at that. I would say Percy Jackson could be a real person except for the fact that he is a son of the Greek god Poseidon. He is like any other kid but he has ADHD and dyslexia. Annabeth, who is the daughter of Athena, could be very much a real person too. She is smart and would like to build lots of things like an architect. Grover, who Percy met in the sixth grade, turns out to be a satyr, half-goat and half-human. He could be real to life because he is like one of those cool rocker / hippie guys. The only flaw in Grover though is that from his waist down he is a goat. The book is really suspenseful because each chapter ends with something shocking or amazing. I think the author’s writing style is great because it is very descriptive. It’s so good it’s like you’re there watching it through a glass ball. The book was so interesting, when it ended I was very sad. I have already finished the second book, The Sea of Monsters. That’s how good I think the series is. I would recommend this book to anybody who is interested in Greek mythology. I also think anyone who likes adventure and suspense should read this book. This has been my favorite book series I have ever read.

Marked

Author:

P.C Cast and Kristain Cast

Review:

The book was great! I would recommend this book to just about everyone who likes vampires. I would also recommend this book to mature readers because it has some faul language. This book is also for people who like real life drama. "Marked" has some action parts but is mostly about a teenager's troubled life in becoming a vampire. "Marked" is the first book of a series of five. the second book is called "betrayed." I like the way the author wrote the book because the main character's life is very realistic (besides the fact that the person is a vampire!). this is the best book i have ever read! i could never put it down!

Max: A Maximum Ride Novel

Author:

James Patterson

Review:

This is the 5th book in the Maximum Ride series and it is amazing. For all of you who have been reading the series and love Max and Fang together, you'll love this book. Romance is in the air between those two. It was totally worth the wait and if you loved the first four books, you'll be IN love with this one.

Sold

Author:

Patricia McCormick

Review:

I liked how the author set up the book in the beginning, explaining that the heroine's dad died and now she has a horrible gambler of a step-father who gambled away all the familys money. I also enjoyed this book because of the way it was descriptive in some parts but not in others (that are gruesome). I also like that it is somewhat true on the events. In Nepal many girls are sold into prostitute houses (brothels) to pay off their family's debt. Although I dont like the fact that the heroine is 13 or 14 and is in a brothel, it is a good book.

Zach's Lie

Author:

Roland Smith

Review:

I read the book Zach’s Lie by Roland Smith. I liked the book because it was kind of easy to read and there were some exciting parts. Jack is a 12 year old boy whose dad is in jail for smuggling illegal drugs across the border. Because of this, Jack, his mother, and his sister are given new identities (Jack's new name is Zach) and are moved to Elko, Nevada. The book was very suspenseful and a little exciting. It was suspenseful because I thought the people who came into Jach's house at the beginning were going to kill his family when the chapter ended. Then the people who were looking for Jack and his family found them in Elko, and were trying to kill them, so I thought that Jack was going to die. The author's style of writing was good. I was able to follow the book without getting side tracked thinking about something else. Also there were very good descriptions. I could picture most every event that happened in the book. I would recommend this book to students in middle school. It is easy to read so anyone could read it. Plus, everyone who enjoys an adventure book would like it.
