Sand in the City - Olympia
240 tons of sand will descend upon the Port Plaza in Olympia, to be transformed by sand sculptors. This art event opens on Friday, August 21 and runs through Sunday, August 23, 2009.

Southwest Washington Fair - Chehalis
The Southwest Washington Fair opens on Tuesday, August 18, and runs through Sunday, August 23, 2009. Also lists some events at the fairgrounds earlier in the year.

Museums

Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture - Seattle
Located on the campus of the University of Washington, The Burke Museum showcases the natural and cultural history of the Pacific Northwest.

Experience Music Project - Seattle
Experience music at this museum located at the Seattle Center. The site offers info about exhibits and events, as well as interviews with artists and bands, and updates on volunteering opportunities. The EMP’s featured exhibit this summer is "Jim Henson’s Fantastic World" (May 23 - Aug. 16, 2009).

Hands On Children’s Museum - Olympia
There’s plenty to see and do at this science and art museum in downtown Olympia.

Lewis County Historical Museum
A children's hands-on exhibit area features a mercantile store, old time kitchen, and an activity table.

Mount Saint Helens National Volcanic Monument - Castle Rock

Museum of Glass - Tacoma
The Museum of Glass illuminates trends in contemporary art as expressed in glass.

Pacific Science Center - Seattle

Tacoma Art Museum
The Tacoma Art Museum seeks to connect people through art. They have hands-on workshops, art programs, and even art summer camp. Their exhibit of work by popular children’s book author/illustrator David Macaulay (“David Macaulay: The Way He Works”) runs through June 14.

Washington State Capital Museum - Olympia
The State Capital Museum is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the political and cultural history of Washington state.

Washington State History Museum -Tacoma
High-tech displays, historical artifacts, and interactive exhibits make Washington state history come alive.

Westport Maritime Museum - Westport
Westport salutes its history of whaling and other seafaring life.

World Kite Museum and Hall of Fame - Long Beach
The World Kite Museum celebrates the achievements and magic of kiting world wide, and seeks to educate young and old about the role kites play in science, arts, religion, and sport.

Parks & Zoos

Chehalis-Centralia Railroad
Visit the 1916 Baldwin "Mikado" and other hard working locomotives

Fort Clatsop National Memorial - Astoria, Oregon
The Lewis and Clark Expedition spent the winter of 1805-1806 at this location. Visitors can see the recreated fort as well as the canoe landing and salt works.

Fort Vancouver Historic Site - Vancouver
Take a tour of the recreated Fort Vancouver, the Northwest outpost of the Hudson Bay Trading Company. You’ll see living history demonstrations in the Blacksmith shop, Carpenter Shop, and, during the summer, the Kitchen. Archeology-focused tours are also available.

Mount Rainier National Park - near Ashford
The Mountain’s always out when you visit to hike, camp, cross-country ski, or just admire the view.

Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad - Elbe
All aboard for a steam train ride through the foothills of Mount Rainier!

Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge
Walk the trails and see ducks, songbirds, raptors, and more birds and animals in this 3,000 acre wildlife refuge.

Northwest Trek - Eatonville
Visit habitats of owls, eagles, wolves, bobcats, and many more animals living in this wildlife park. A tour tram takes visitors through an open roaming area for elk, moose, deer, bighorn sheep, bison, caribou, and more. The park offers special events throughout the summer: check for updates.
