Reaching Out to Senior Citizens in
Our Community
Timberland Regional Library wants to reach senior
citizens, so we are making it convenient for you to bring the library
to your senior group home or facility.
Timberland has filled sturdy rolling boxes with books,
videos, and audiotapes that let you offer your clients materials that
will:
-
Stimulate the minds and memory through reading.
-
Provide for the sharing of stories and experiences.
Inside the boxes -- fiction and non-fiction, current bestsellers and
classics in various formats.
- Videos – some
theatrical releases, and some educational titles. Older titles are still in
VHS format, but newer titles, as they are replaced, are on DVD.
- Audio books - mostly
fiction, a few non-fiction. The audio cassette versions will slowly be
replaced by CD copies as replacements are made.
- Large-print books -
mostly fiction, some non-fiction and picture books.
- Regular-print books.
To borrow a Senior Box:
- Call your nearest
Timberland Library! The staff there will verify your institution’s library
account, and place a hold on Senior Connect boxes as you require.
- Every Senior Connect
box has a number between 1 and 100. Keep track of which one’s you’ve
borrowed, so you can request a different one next time.
- The contents of each
box is updated each time it is returned. Over a three-year period, the
complete contents of each box will be changed. So if you repeat a box, it
will have new materials, more if it’s been longer since you last used it.
- The Senior Connect box
you requested will arrive at your library in 1 to 3 days. You will be
notified of its arrival by phone or email, whichever is selected on your
institutional card.
- Each box checks out for
three weeks. If you need it for a different period of time, tell the staff
at your local library so they can adjust the due date.
- You may return the
Senior Connect box at any Timberland library – just return it to the staff
for regular check-in. If you later find materials that belong in the box
but got separated, return them when you find them. The contents of the
boxes are flexible, so you will not be billed for missing items. We do
expect the boxes to be returned, with the same policies as other Timberland
materials.
We look forward to connecting with you!
Tim Mallory and the Adult Services crew of Timberland Regional Library.
